Technology has been the driving force of development in many countries around the world for the past 250 years. Since the 1990s with the creation of the world wide web, technological advancement has been happening all around us.

The tasks we are now able to complete thanks to computers and other devices and the software installed on these devices are phenomenal. All industries are undergoing a revolution when it comes to technological development. It only makes sense that the sustainability industry needs a revolution also, especially when it comes to not-for-profits.

Not-for-profits, traditionally, do not have the kind of money that they are able to invest in revolutionary software development. However, not only can these organisations benefit from developing software to better understand their customer-base and provide better services to the people they are serving, but these organisations can also benefit from the administrative time and costs saved through new software, especially one which could streamline processes.

How can information and communications technology professionals seize this opportunity? The first step is to speak to a diverse group of not-for-profits about what would make working in their sector easier, what would reduce costs and what would cut down on wasted time. By asking different organisations this question, it will be easier to find a common problem and create a solution to this problem, which could be sold to a number of not-for-profits. This means the software which is developed will still be profitable as it will be able to be used by a number of organisations.

It is also important to educate those in the not-for-profit sector about the value of technology and software to work in a more efficient manner and to record, track and measure their successes and failures in a more succinct and reliable fashion.

By developing software which brings benefits to society, your ICT business is making another step on your journey towards sustainability while still delivering profits and success!
