Thanks for your thoughts Austin. I think it all comes back down to knowing your consumer base. If your organisation tends to be a little more conservative with a more liberal consumer base, political issues which can be widely agreed upon, such as gender equality, are the way to go!

I think the Chik Fil A example is an incredibly interesting one. Unfortunately, it was not brought to light in the best way. It came through media channels, not through the company itself. I believe if Chik Fil A had come out right at the start and said that they understand that some of their consumers might not agree, but they laid out their reasons for their decision, the backlash might not have been as severe. It’s all about messaging!
